SAINT PAUL
PSYCHOTHERAPY

Alexa Fetzer
Director of Training | Psychologist, PhD, LP
I am a licensed counseling psychologist, and the Director of Training at Saint Paul Psychotherapy. In my therapy work, I primarily use an interpersonal, relational approach - I believe that we come to know ourselves through the interactions and relationships we have with the people and communities around us. We take what we learn from these experiences, and they help shape our ways of being and relating. When we enter periods of transition that bring new experiences, new roles, and new relationships, our familiar ways of being and relating may not serve us in the same ways they used to – this can lead to isolation, self-doubt, anxious and depressed mood, or relationship and identity concerns. When people find themselves in this place (we all do!), I help them find a deeper sense of self-awareness, a more affirming relationship to themselves, and more authentic and fulfilling ways of relating to others.

This work includes exploration of the teachings, messages, and “shoulds” we’ve received from our relationship experiences, from our cultural practices and beliefs, and from our interactions with organizations, systems, and sociopolitical events. I welcome and invite exploration of these messages, ways they’ve shaped how we understand ourselves and our experiences, and help you consider what teachings to embrace, and what “shoulds” to release.

Much of my professional experience includes working with adults facing a broad range of concerns in university counseling settings, and providing clinical supervision and training to graduate students in psychology.

In my free time, I like to nurture my northern Minnesota roots by camping, canoeing, and working on my loon call in the wilderness. I also enjoy gardening, eating delicious food (emphasis on the eating – not so much on the cooking!), and spending time with friends and family.

I look forward to connecting and learning if we might be a good fit!
