Saint Paul Psychotherapy offers training positions for graduate students interested in learning and applying psychodynamic, existential, and relational psychotherapy approaches. We are proud of our robust training program which provides both social and practical support. Our experienced trainers provide personalized guidance to help trainees enhance their skills in psychotherapy. In our program, trainees can continue to expand their knowledge of psychotherapy and gain the confidence they need to be successful in their practice.

Ideal candidates have an appreciation for complex conceptualization of human experience, interest in understanding and working with (counter)transference in the therapeutic process, and a dedication to understanding one’s personal subjectivity as it manifests in the therapeutic engagement.

Ideal candidates are well organized, able to see a minimum of eight patients a week, and in addition to individual supervision, available to participate in group consultation and didactic training.

We believe strongly that therapy, consistent consultation, and theoretical training all reinforce one another in making for excellent professional development and clinical care.

Clinician Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group psychotherapy sessions using a depth psychology approach

  • Develop strong therapeutic relationships built on trust and intimacy

  • Collaboratively assess client needs and create individualized treatment plans

  • Utilize a variety of depth-oriented techniques, including dream analysis, active imagination, and transference interpretation

  • Provide ongoing clinical supervision to pre-licensed therapists (optional)

  • Contribute to the overall development of the clinic through case presentations, workshops, or research initiatives

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, PsyD, or PhD in clinical psychology, social work, or counseling with a focus in depth psychology

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Minnesota

  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing individual psychotherapy

  • Strong theoretical grounding in depth psychology principles and practices

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

  • Culturally competent and committed to providing inclusive and equitable care
